Inspiring the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
As part of an initiative led by Dr. Kate Taylor, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), in partnership with Overture and Trinity Terrace, hosted an interprofessional mentorship and healthy aging outreach event. The event brought together Medical Student Training in Aging Research (MSTAR) scholars, Rising Stars local high school students, and Trinity Terrace residents for a unique learning experience focused on falls prevention and healthy aging.
Rising Stars students were paired with MSTAR medical student mentors to conduct evidence-based falls risk screenings while learning firsthand about caring for older adults and the importance of team-based healthcare. Throughout the event, students shared how much they enjoyed their conversations with Trinity Terrace residents, and several expressed a greater interest in caring for older adults after hearing their stories and experiences.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Trinity Terrace and the residents who generously participated. Your willingness to engage with our students created a meaningful educational experience while promoting awareness of falls prevention. We are also grateful to Overture for partnering with us to support healthy aging and community outreach.
If your falls screening identified an increased risk for falls, we encourage you to follow up with your primary care provider to discuss any additional evaluation or recommendations that may be appropriate for you.
Thank you for helping make this event a success. Together, we are strengthening healthy aging, fostering meaningful community partnerships, and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
