At Overture Home Care, we believe that your loved ones deserve the very best care so that they can age with dignity and as much independence as possible. We have been honored to provide that care and support to the residents of Tarrant, Johnson, Parker and Hood counties from our original location in Fort Worth, Texas. We will continue to provide that service, while adding support for the residents of Dallas County — including the communities of Highland Park, University Park, Addison, Farmers Branch and Richardson — from the new Dallas office.

Exercise is a wonderful thing. It can truly be the fountain of youth. Along with rejuvenating your muscles, regular exercise can help lower blood pressure, improve balance to prevent falls, and help fight bone density loss, another issue for seniors. Everybody should start exercising right away. And here’s the thing: everybody can, regardless of age or fitness level.

During this year’s National Healthy Weight Week (January 15-21) we encourage you to check in with your senior loved one to make sure that they are eating regularly, eating healthy food and showing no signs of malnutrition. We have included a link below to a downloadable document that will help you recognize those signs, understand the risks involved, and talk to your loved one’s medical team about possible drug interactions or fasting issues.

Blue Zones are a handful of areas around the world where people enjoy quantifiably longer and more independent lives. In some of those areas — such as the Greek island of Ikaria — those long-lived folks also show near-zero rates for conditions like Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

As we recognize National Family Caregivers Month this November, we must also recognize National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month — and the connection between the two through the family members devastated by the demands of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

According to a National Alliance for Caregiving / AARP study, about 34.2 million Americans just like you provide unpaid care to a senior adult every year. Some of those Americans have created organizations and non-profit groups dedicated to providing their peers with needed guidance, support and human connection.

On July 19, Overture Home Care participated in the Tarrant Area Gerontological Society (TAGS) Summer Forum. Our SVP Paige Wolk is currently the Membership Chair and past president of the TAGS board, and we enthusiastically support the TAGS mission to provide education, recognition and scholarship support to healthcare professionals who work with the elderly in our area.

One thing we all learned from the COVID-19 experience is that viruses mutate frequently and vaccinations need to be updated to remain effective against the new versions. This is true for the seasonal influenza virus as well, and it's why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have long recommended that everyone 6 months and older get an updated flu shot every year.

This summer has seen record-breaking heat waves across the U.S. and Europe, and it has felt like our own North Texas area has been at the center of it all.
