The holidays are here, and the Overture Home Care elves have been busy! Here are a few of the behind-the-scenes activities, events, seminars, conferences, and training sessions we have been part of since our last update

November is National Family Caregivers Month. According to a National Alliance for Caregiving / AARP study, about 34.2 million Americans provide unpaid care to a senior adult every year. At Overture Home Care, it is our mission to provide support for those family caregivers as they work tirelessly on behalf of their senior loved ones.

We are proud to announce our nomination of Overture Home Care caregiver Carolyn Wills for the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) 2023 Caregiver of the Year Award. 

We’re doing it again! On October 28 in Fort Worth — and November 4 in Dallas — Overture Home Care will be sponsoring and participating in the 2023 Alzheimer's Association® Walk to End Alzheimer's®.

In recognition of this month’s triple whammy of National Depression Screening Day (10/5), World Mental Health Day (10/10) and Mental Illness Awareness Week (10/1–10/7), we want to share with you an important podcast appearance that our CEO Denise Helms, RN, BSN and Senior Vice President Paige Wolk, LBSW, CDP made on the Parent Projects Podcast with Tony Siebers.

The Overture Home Care team was out and about all month in August, bringing insights and information to an important senior care podcast, supplying vital training to a senior community in Dallas, and debuting as a featured small business in the new Southlake & Grapevine Scout Guide.

Our older loved ones are particularly at risk from the scams and frauds initiated by those emails, as many seniors control readily available funds, trust institutions that appear legitimate, and have little knowledge of technology and current scams. According to the FBI Elder Fraud information page our elderly population suffers more than $3 billion in losses to fraud annually.

This month we are thrilled to join the Alzheimer’s Association in celebrating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) action to grant traditional approval of Leqembi® (lecanemab) for the treatment of early Alzheimer's disease with confirmation of elevated amyloid beta.

This February, we were thrilled to bring Julie Mercer into the Overture Home Care family as our new Overture Home Care Dallas Community Liaison.

Every year, we are proud to join the Alzheimer’s Association® in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by sponsoring The Longest Day fundraising and educational events around the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

During National High Blood Pressure Education Month this May, let’s all give thanks for the humble blood pressure cuff and the essential health care insights it provides!

Overture Home Care was founded and is still directed by a registered nurse. Providing RN Managed Care under the RN Delegated Task Rules set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing has always been an important part of our care mission. We hope that you’ll join us this month in celebrating the contributions of Overture’s professional nurses

Since opening our second office in Dallas, Texas earlier this year, Overture Home Care has been out and about in our new neighborhood, getting to know the community through the wonderful senior-friendly and caregiver assistance organizations that call this vibrant city home.

The theme for this year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Month is #Take6forPD. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease every six minutes. To fight back against that grim statistic, the foundation has created checklists of six-minute actions that anyone can take to help advance research, improve access to care, or empower and educate in the fight against the disease.

In 2023, the American Diabetes Association Alert Day falls on March 28. We encourage you to recognize this day by taking the National Institutes of Health Online Diabetes Risk Test — and by making sure that your senior loved ones take the test as well.

Your kidneys serve an essential role in your circulatory system. They are hard-working little organs that constantly filter the blood from your arteries, pass the filtered blood back into your veins, and remove the filtered waste products from your body as urine.

Without proper kidney function, waste products and fluids build up in your body, leading to a host of other issues. Eventually, last-resort procedures like dialysis treatments and kidney transplants may be necessary as it is not possible to live without at least one functioning kidney.
